Partnering to Care for People With Cancer
At Findhelp, we’ve seen firsthand the devastating impact that cancer can have on individuals and their families. Several of our team members have experienced cancer personally, or taken care of family members facing the disease. Like all chronic illnesses, cancer impacts not only a person’s physical health but also their emotional health, finances, stability, and more. Findhelp is your partner to care for people with cancer, from diagnosis and treatment through recovery and remission.
The Social Risk Factors of Cancer
According to the National Institutes for Health, the social drivers of health (SDoH) not only affect how someone responds to cancer treatment, but they also increase the risk of cancer mortality. Low education, low income, ZIP Code poverty, poor public health infrastructure, lack of health insurance, and social isolation are significantly associated with cancer mortality.
In recognition of February as National Cancer Prevention Month, we’re sharing the many ways we partner with our customers to support people experiencing cancer by connecting them with social care resources to improve their health outcomes.
Protecting Future Generations: National Cancer Prevention Month
First observed in 2014 by the American Association for Cancer Research, National Cancer Prevention Month is recognized every February to educate the public about the importance of preventing cancer through early detection.
According to the American Cancer Society, more than 2 million new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in the United States in 2024. However, research (including from the World Health Organization) has shown that 30 to 50% of cancer cases and deaths are preventable through healthy lifestyle choices and early detection.
By raising awareness and promoting healthy habits, National Cancer Prevention Month aims to reduce the number of cancer cases and deaths in the future. By connecting patients to resources that can address social risk factors, our customers are leading the way in cancer prevention.
Partnering to Take Care of People with Cancer
The Findhelp platform includes almost 30 cancer-related personal filters that users can apply to narrow their search results to programs that specialize in their specific type of cancer and their unique circumstances.
We partner with hospital systems, federally qualified health centers, payers, pharmaceutical companies, medical associations, and more to support their populations who are navigating a cancer diagnosis or taking care of someone affected by cancer.
Here are some highlights that show how a few of these organizations successfully partner and innovate with us to lift up their cancer communities and improve health outcomes.
The US Oncology Network, a subsidiary of McKesson, is one of the nation’s largest networks of community-based oncology physicians, dedicated to advancing cancer care in America.
They empower the delivery of advanced integrated cancer care through their network of independent physicians who share expertise and resources to provide quality, value-based care close to home.
- The US Oncology Network went live with their social care platform (powered by Findhelp) in May 2023 with the goal of improving health equity among the populations they serve and increasing access to social services in their communities.
- As a testament to their success in addressing cancer patients’ SDoH, The US Oncology Network will be speaking on a panel at Findhelp’s upcoming Connect Summit to share their innovative incentive programs that encourage practice staff to use their Findhelp platform to make closed-loop social care referrals.
A beacon of support for individuals facing cancer, the American Cancer Society (ACS) offers a comprehensive range of services aimed at providing comfort, guidance, and resources throughout an individual’s journey.
From providing vital information about cancer types, treatment options, and support services to funding groundbreaking research, organizing community events, and advocating for policies to improve cancer care, ACS works tirelessly to enhance the lives of those affected by cancer.
- Their call center serves as a lifeline, staffed by compassionate professionals ready to offer personalized support, connect individuals with resources, and provide a listening ear to anyone navigating the complexities of cancer diagnosis and treatment.
- Since early 2023, ACS has been partnering with Findhelp to configure resource directories for their call center staff, clients, and community.
- They leverage an innovative Findhelp integration with Salesforce to seamlessly connect callers with vital social care resources.
- These resource directories ensure that individuals facing cancer receive holistic support tailored to their needs, from wigs and transportation to medical appointments and food and housing resources.
- Connecting patients to resources enhances their overall well-being, throughout their cancer journey.
Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is a world-class cancer treatment and research institution in New York City. MSK is leading the fight against cancer by focusing on the patient and providing unparalleled personalized treatment.
- MSK launched their social care platform (powered by Findhelp) in early 2024 for both staff to navigate on behalf of patients and for patients to self-navigate for themselves and their families.
- MSK is partnering with Findhelp to build a Trusted Network of community programs to drive closed-loop referrals and improve patient outcomes.
- Further plans include integrating their Findhelp platform with their Epic electronic health record system to create a longitudinal care record that includes both social care and medical care information, ensuring the best possible health outcome.
